Now We Move

T'was a scorching day! A dozen volunteers picked every corner of the beach and hills clean, bagging 20 bags or so of rubbish.

Our fingers are crossed that the winter currents don't pull in too much rubbish from the Mediterranean over the next few months!

Thanks for all your helping hands :)

Riviera Bus Stop Busting

Anyone who has used the bus stop by Riviera, Ghajn Tuffieha has probably had a peak over the wall and down into the field below.

The amount of rubbish thrown over from the side of the road was quite shocking and for years we have walked past it on our way to cleaning the beach below, wondering how the owner of the land felt about the state it was in.

While we're still not sure who it belongs to, we could no longer take seeing it in this state so we took a break from the sand and got to work here instead. We originally expected to be done within 1 clean up, but it sadly took us 3 to make a dent in it. While we still can't call it spotless, it's a massive improvement.

It's sad to think that 77 bags were collected from the one small area. I wish we knew how much weight that relates to.

After a lot of emailing, phoning and pushing, the local council has finally planted 2 bins by the bus stop so we hope this will do the trick in keeping it clean from now on.

Thanks to everyone who took part, and the random strangers from the bus stop who pitched in!

Winter clean up

It was a messy one! Way too much plastic washed up on the shore. The bulk of it was in the 'nudist' beach, just over the clay cliffs between Riviera and Gnejna.

8 volunteers got stuck in with a couple new faces amongst the ranks :)

Unfortunately we didn't manage to collect everything on this occasion, but a big dent in the mess was made and many bags were dragged to the top of the stairs to be collected :)

Many thanks to all involved and to Matt and Fredric for the photos!

Catch you at the next one ;)

Halloween Clean Up

We're happy to report that the beach and the surrounding area was cleaner than we've ever seen it!

From clean ups which brought in up to 30 bags of rubbish about 3 years ago, we've slowly watched the litter diminish to days like today when only 4 bags or so were filled - and that's including a tour of the car park too! Knowing that people are respecting the land so much more nowadays feels pretty damn good.

Well, it may be time to spread our wings to different areas of the island in search of places in greater need...

Any suggestions? Do let us know; drop us a line at info@thatsrubbishmalta.com or add us on Facebook.

Thanks to everyone who turned up today, despite the wind and the rain ~

Stay tuned for the next one :)
